Astonishing data of its ageing population doesn’t end there.
And a study of the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research have also said that there is no respite for positive change in Japan’s demographics as by 2025, at least 30 percent of its population will be over 65 years and in 2040, 35.3 percent of its population will constitute of the elderly.
As her population ages, the Japanese government have been recruiting foreigners and have also encouraged its women to participate more in the labour force. The rapidly ageing population, coupled with low fertility rate that is said to be spiked by poor work-life balance, high cost of raising a child, women’s education and empowerment and the subsequent unwillingness to raise a child are some of the reasons given that have caused imbalance in the demographics.
